Creating a Vision
“If a man does not know what port he is steering for, no wind is favourable to him”
Task: Have a think about these questions throughout the week – Have you got a vision for your life? Did you always have one? How has it worked out for you?
We have all heard the saying that life is a Journey not a destination.
I struggle with this at times because I have never been able to set down roots anywhere. I have never lived anywhere for longer that 4 years! And sometimes when I’m looking forward, I get really stressed because I want to have children and I want them to have the stability that I never really had.
I want to settle down and build a family home for them but also for myself but I worry about the details like, where will we settle? Will we build or buy a house. I think I have learned that when I catch myself fretting about the details, I realise my ego has taken over and slowly I pull myself back and remind myself that everything in life happens perfectly and that it is all mapped out anyway!
I was a great day dreamer – going to school on the bus I would get lost in a day dream about these scenarios – something or other that I would have wanted to happen at the time and I loved getting lost in these day dreams! I don’t do that enough anymore and that is something I now want to bring more of into each day!
Benefits of having a vision
I believe that a vision is the seed from which the most exhilarating lives, life experiences and the best versions of ourselves grow. This is our starting point.
If you have a vision, you know where you are going. You have a goal or a target that is achievable.
It gives you a purpose and something to strive towards.
It gives your life meaning and something to work towards.
It gives you direction when your life may not be working out the way you want it to.
And best of all it is a guiding light and a great means of hope. When things aren’t going your way, your vision can be your driving force to see you through.
How to create the best vision for you
- A vision needs to be something you are passionate about so sit down and plan it out.
- Your vision also needs to feel good and inspire you so put in as much detail as you can.
- Have a starting point and a middle, envisioning the end will take the fun out of it and won’t leave anything up to chance.
- Day dream using your vision, see it in your mind’s eye and feel how you will feel when achieving your goals.
- Have fun with it, find pictures that will help make it more real to you and stick them up on a vision board.
- Come up with one step that you could take now towards bringing your vision to life.
